About James Nichols

I am trained in a variety of approaches and integrate them in a way to best serve the individual client with therapy, counseling, and coaching services. My current out-of-pocket fee per session is $90. My trainings and certifications include Mindfulness/Insight-based therapies, CBT, SFBT ACT, EMDR, Clinical Hypnosis, Generative Coaching, Metaphors of Movement, Provocative Changeworks, and NLP.

It takes courage to begin therapy and coaching. My experience is that once you begin, you’ll experience changes immediately. I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds and if we’re not a good fit I will help you find someone who is. I am a proud ally to LGBTQ folks and am kink and poly aware. I welcome adult and senior clients and have immediate openings. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, I have been operating a hybrid practice which accommodates teletherapy clients locally and throughout Texas, in addition to offering in person sessions with appropriate health precautions in place.

More About Me

James “Jaime” Nichols is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing as a psychotherapist in Austin, Texas. His specialties include addressing issues stemming from trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss. As a native of Austin and long-time musician and creative, Jaime also specializes in working with clients on addressing challenges to creativity and performance. Additionally, Jaime is an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and welcomes opportunities to work with individuals, couples and non-traditional partnerships on relationship challenges and opportunities.

Jaime chose the name Welcome Suggestions for his private practice to reflect the spirit of inviting and curious warmth when learning about and working with each client’s unique experiences, strengths, and challenges. Jaime’s background and training as a hypnotist also comes into play in the name Welcome Suggestions, as any suggestion offered in session is an offer for individuals, couples, and groups to consider and revisit experiences from a perspective intended to help generate new possibilities and make real steps towards meaningful change.

His office is located in North Austin at 12319-B Willow Wild Drive, located near Parmer Lane and I-35, where he hosts both face-to-face and virtual teletherapy visits. Jaime enjoys working with clients throughout Texas and his full-time practice provides individual, family, and group therapy services Mondays – Saturdays.

Jaime obtained his bachelor’s degree in Psychology at St. Edwards University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and obtained his master’s degree in Social Work from Texas State University. Prior to starting his clinical practice in 2020 Jaime worked extensively in hospice, Veteran mental health, and substance use recovery settings. The time spent in these fields greatly influenced his approach to helping individuals and families cope with the life challenges, health issues, and the need for support, meaning, and change at all stages of life.

In addition to his clinical practice, Jaime provides training for coaches and therapists on providing client-centered experiential interventions aimed at making effective differences for people. Jaime also continues his own professional development, making use of ongoing trainings to refine best practices, as well as relying on ongoing feedback from his clients to ensure that all clients are getting a useful and meaningful experience in their time at Welcome Suggestions.
